41′ Morgan – Structural Repairs (April & May 2018)

This boat was in great condition overall. It had spent its whole life in Canada on fresh water. The new owners were committed to make the perfect live-aboard out of her. First priority, was to reconfigure the forward cabin into a kids bedroom. This involved constructing: a new large bunk, a storage locker, a writing desk and joinery to trim out the space. Next, the project included extensive structural repairs (bulkheads and floors). Like many vessels from this era 3/4 plywood in poly resin was used for most structural members. One by one, rotten frames were replaced. This required carefully demoing the cabin to gain access, then demoing the rotten structural wood, extensively cleaning the area, templates were then made for replace parts, each piece was fabricated and coated with epoxy before being fastened and glassed into place. After structural repairs were complete work began on re-configuring the forward head and salon.
